Location: This position is based in Magumeri LGA

Main Purpose
Participate in the nutritional case management of children suffering from acute malnutrition under
supervision of the nutritional nurse and according to INTERSOS nutritional and hygiene protocols in order to improve health conditions of the targeted population.
Accountabilities
  • Carry out basic health care (swabbing, applying local treatments, etc.) following the rules on hygiene and asepsis.
  • Inform caretakers on the functioning of the center: lay out, daily activity plan (number and
  • frequency of the meals, medical visit, weight measurement, etc.) and other general
  • information.
  • Distribute meals according to medical prescriptions for each patient, ensuring that no other food is given in phase 1 and maintain hygienic conditions while doing this.
  • Report on daily basis intakes of the patients under nutritional treatment.
  • Stimulate mothers to breast-feed.
  • Monitor and report weight and other vital indicators, if necessary, (temperature, heart and respiratory rates) of each patient.
  • Report the nurse pathologic symptoms such as, apathetic, anorexia, not drinking, vomiting,
  • fever, dehydration, diarrhea, etc.
  • Apply the correct procedures in the event of a fever (damping down, providing liquids, etc.) or hypothermia (kangaroo method, survival blanket, etc.).
  • Supervise drinking water availability in the ward, and ensure it is well identified.
  • Supervise premises and materials remain clean.
  • Provide hygienic training and sanitation education to children, mothers and the targeted population.

Project: Stabilization center project, Magumeri
Location: Magumeri LGA, Borno State

Job Profile
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all laboratory services provided in the Stabilization Center are in accordance with the national guidelines and meet the minimum standards for good laboratory services.
  • S/He will be responsible for establishing and/or supervising all laboratories and laboratory services within the Stabilization center project in Magumeri.
  • S/He will supervise and ensure the laboratory services provided in these health facilities
  • include basic screening tests for blood borne diseases, grouping and cross-matching of blood and that all blood and blood products are in line with established standards and are free of any
  • known transmissible infections.
  • S/He will ensure quality control in the laboratory as a major responsibility on the project.
  • S/He will be involved in training and supervising local staff (the laboratory assistants and other project staff that may require laboratory training), oversee any testing occurring in the
  • laboratory as required by the project and ensure that they conform with acceptable standards.
  • S/He will ensure that there is proper record keeping and stock monitoring within the laboratory of all consumable supplies and will also be responsible for ensuring proper records
  • of any laboratory tests conducted or supervision of any other delegated party for the same.
  • S/He will ensure that there is adequate information provided to all relevant project staff regarding safety protocols for handling specific laboratory products, that various samples are
  • processed in accordance with their biohazard/safety level and will also coordinate follow-up of samples in the event of transfer.
Qualifications/Experience
  • Must possess a bachelor’s degree (BMLS) or its equivalent in clinical/medical laboratory science. Alternatively, person may have held a position as a medical laboratory scientist,
  • laboratory technologist or medical laboratory analyst, MUST be registered with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLCSN) and must possess a current practicing license.
  • Must possess a minimum of 3 years’ relevant post-qualification experience working in laboratory.
  • Experience working as a laboratory scientist or laboratory assistant in a Stabilization center is a plus.
  • Must have experience in sample collection of various laboratory samples.
  • Must have experience in hematological, chemical pathological and microbiological analysis
  • Experience in developing and coordinating a supply management system with respect to laboratory supplies
  • Knowledge of all basic laboratory techniques and quality control systems is very essential to this role.

JOB TASKS
Under the supervision of the Pharmacist Coordinator, the pharmacist will be responsible for the following main activities in link with INTERSOS procedures:
  • Implementing a quality drugs supply system in line with INTERSOS standards
  • Implementing an effective stock management
  • Reception and preparation of orders
  • Collection and analysis of drugs consumption
  • Reporting and attending to different meetings
  • Support to health facilities and mobile clinics
TASKS DESCRIPTION:
  • Implementing a quality drugs supply system for the stabilization center in line with INTERSOS standards
  • Participate in analysis of needs, preparation of regular forecasts, calculation of replenishment orders and buffer stocks and initiating timely procurement of medical supplies in collaboration
  • with line manager and other members of staff.
  • Anticipate needs for medical supplies and assist in defining and implementing strategy for local procurement if necessary in collaboration with line manager
  • Raise alerts as soon as usage of buffer stock begins
  • Checks quality of drugs are in line with INTERSOS internal, and national regulations during the procurement process
  • Participate on evaluation of potential local suppliers according to INTERSOS standards (QUAMED) on request of line manager
  • Implementing an effective stock management.
  • Create a pharmacy with appropriate storage, receiving and packing space and allowing to conduct a full medical inventory
  • Organize drugs storage according to international standards (route of administration, alphabetical order of International Non-proprietary Name, FEFO principle, clear labeling with

  • Organise drugs and medical supplies for easy distribution and appropriate stock movement records

PROFIL REQUIRED:
  • Essential: Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy or its equivalent diploma
  • License to Dispense Drugs in Nigeria.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working in the nonprofit sector in information and data management, ideally in health programming or protection.
  • Excellent Excel Skills
  • Ability to think independently and identify data discrepancies
  • Experience designing and implementing electronic data collection methods
  • Understanding of confidentiality requirements for medical data is a plus
  • Experience working in a multiorganizational team (international and national partners) is a plus.

Job Location: The position is based in Magumeri LGA

Main Purpose
Assist the Pharmacist on the project in ensuring the proper general functioning of the central pharmacy and the supply to other field pharmacies.
Accountabilities
  • Maintain the adequacy of storage and hygiene conditions of pharmacy according to INTERSOS protocols.
  • Participate in physical inventories and organization of stock according to INTERSOS recommended storage guidelines.
  • Participate in preparations and sending the different health structure (packaging, transport…). If working as a dispenser, verify with prescriber in case of unclear prescription or difference
  • from standard protocols and that patients are counseled appropriately regarding their prescribed treatments
  • Participate in the reception of supplies
  • Ensure that material is not taken without authorization and that the security regulations of the pharmacy are respected.
  • Report immediately in case of robbery/damage of medical equipment or medicines. Take actions to avoid or prevent the robberies and damages on the equipment.
  • Update stock cards and inform the stock manager as soon as an item reaches the minimum or maximum threshold or is about to expire.
  • Collaborate with line manager on stock management as well as monthly reports.
  • To provide weekly inventory and stock management details to line manager.
Requirements

Scope of Work
  • The Stabilization Doctor will be based in the field location and is responsible for running day to day activities in the stabilization centre and he/she reports to the Stabilization center manager
  • and works closely with the Health and Nutrition Manager for administrative issues.
  • The stabilization center Doctor ensures the implementation of a quality clinical care of children admitted to the center in accordance with National and international standards.
  • The Medical Doctor will identify gaps in SC care and will take the necessary steps to address those gaps.
  • He/she provides technical oversight assistance in planning, implementing, and monitoring of
  • high impact intervention and provides support in system strengthening and promotion of childhood nutrition, with special focus to the most vulnerable and unreached populations
  • groups.
  • He/she will directly supervise clinical staff and ensure staff maintain high professionalism throughout.
  • The stabilization Doctor will ensure quality of services in the stabilization center CMAM PROGRAMME through strengthening capacities on the clinical management of SAM and
  • facilitating integration of services related to newborn and child health.
  • The stabilization center Doctor will oversee night coverage activities/services provided to admitted cases (and caregivers) at the stabilization center.
Key Areas of Accountability
Under direct supervision of the stabilization center manager, the stabilization center Doctor Will
stabilization center functions:
  • Daily prescription of the quantity of food needed for the day to day based on the number of children present in phase I and transition/rehabilitation phase.
  • Order the drugs for the SC In collaboration with the pharmacist.
  • Manage the daily collection of the number of new admissions and exists and attendance from the register.
  • Weekly checks and transmit the statistics to the stabilization center manager
  • Give feed back to the team and take appropriate action
  • Provide high quality clinical care to complicated cases of SAM admitted at the stabilization
  • center(SC) in accordance with the National guidelines for inpatient Management of SAM
Mentor and provide on the- job training on stabilization care and documentation to nurses and other health workers deployed to the SC to ensure:
  • Respect of approved protocol for management of acute malnutrition
  • Correct use of programme monitoring and evaluation (recording tool)
  • Appropriate use of resources, stock control and ordering procedures

  • Participate in the development and review of programme monitoring and evaluation tools where necessary
  • Produce case studies related to in patient care, at least one per quarter or as per line manager’s request
  • Facilitate integration of services for a holistic approach of SAM by working in collaboration with partners
Maintains and supervises quality of medical care dispensed: drugs distribution correct application of the medical protocols: clinical follow up, rehydration , detection in times of the
medical complication
Nutritional follow up: ensuring correct measurements and follow-up of the weight and edema, and that good records are kept - individual cards and the attendance register book
Ensure and quality checks admission and exit: respect of criteria
Ensures and role-models respect for the dignity of the patients and the accompanying caretaker
Resolution of problems occurring between the patient and the personnel
Ensure that mothers are well informed about the functioning of the center, the state and the evolution of their child.
Clinical Functions:
  • Set work schedule to include overnights shared with and hospital physicians
  • Clinical examination of all patients with signs of complicated pathologies or presenting complication or referral from by the nurses
  • Prescription management and follow up of severe and complicated cases in consultation with hospital physician
  • Adaptation and change of specific medical treatment and differential diagnosis in partnership with other colleagues
  • Authorizes and interprets rapid clinical laboratory
  • Referral of patients to hospital and between hospital
  • Training of hospital INTERSOS nurses on routine treatment prescription (theoretical and on the job training)

  • Staff Management:
  • Maintain an updated job description, conduct interviews, orient new staffs to the INTERSOS protocols and reports to the SC Manager.
  • Supervise the stabilization center staff (Nurse, help mothers, Mothers) directly provide
  • ongoing leadership to the project team and overseeing implementation and coordination of activity plans to ensure targets are met
  • Provide ongoing supervision, leadership, training and technical support and guidance to nutrition staff and ensure all stabilization center staff adhere to best-practice principles in all
  • aspects of program implementation
  • Holds responsibility for stabilization center staff team’s timesheet, workplan vacation schedules and staff training/development activities
  • Ensure Internal Review documentation for all staff is in place and followed up regularly
  • Recommend and implement a capacity building/development plan for project staff based on documented capacity needs assessment exercise
  • Ensure stabilization center staff understands and follows INTERSOS and donor policies and procedures

Requirements
  • Medical degree (MBBS/MBChB) from a recognized/accredited university in Nigeria and
  • registered with Nigeria Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria and have a valid practice license

Post Location: This position is based in Magumeri LGA

The position holder is overall responsible to lead the Therapeutic Feeding Unit (TFU)/stabilization centre component of Community Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) implementation in
the LGA and working closely with the LGA health workers, and SC colleagues for the effective implementation and linkage of CMAM program with the community and facility. In addition, the
position holder is also expected to provide consistent and high quality technical support in relation to CMAM implementation and will assist Nutrition field workers, and other staff in the Stabilization Center
to build a strong CMAM implementation package.
Scope of Work

The Stabilization Center Manager’s primary responsibility is to ensure that the center is functioning properly, providing care of quality including medical diagnosis and treatment of the patients
presenting medical complications. Ensures the respect and correct application of the treatment protocols.
Dimensions of Role
  • The incumbent will be overall responsible for diagnosing complicated SAM case using physical examinations and different laboratory tests in Magumeri SC in collaboration with other INTERSOS
  • nutrition staff and SMOH staff. Based on their findings, prescribe required treatment and medications to attempt to heal any illnesses or injuries as per SAM inpatient management protocol of Nigeria and
  • World Health Organization.
  • MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Examines patients/clients in line with standard medical procedures using various types of diagnostic mechanisms;
  • Compiles monthly reports and submits to coordinators and hospital/state leadership
  • Stock management in collaboration with Pharmacy.
  • Ensure patients feeding needs are taken care of in line with their daily dietary needs in collaboration with the project manager and the H&N manager and works to ensure meals
  • distributed on time and in respectful quantity.
  • Supervise the use of medicines, medical supplies, and nutrition related commodities and data tools in the SC
  • Ensure timely collection, compilation, and analysis of quality data as well as production of
  • quantitative and qualitative reports regarding all INTERSOS activities

  • Administers and prescribes drugs based on analysis of examination, test reports and findings and counselling services as National and WHO SAM inpatient management protocol. Providing technical support and gap-filling support when needed.
  • Manages the project unit's implementation of nutrition program in agreement with the overall CMAM Program activities specially Stabilization centre/ therapeutic feeding unit and the
  • National manual in the management of SAM,
  • Holds responsibility for stabilization center staff team’s timesheet, workplan vacation schedules and staff training/development activities
  • Makes sure that stabilization centre/TFC care is implemented according to the National protocol and WHO guideline i.e. application of the admission and discharge criteria, complication treatment, therapeutic feeding, closely monitors and strictly follows anthropometry measurement
  • Ensures the availability of job aids, reporting formats, therapeutic products (F75, F100 and RUTF) and drugs for program implementation in SC
  • Plan and organize SC at designated SC sites in liaison with SMoH staff and other nutrition staff.
  • Work closely with Nutrition Supervisor and community mobilization officer to ensure all aspects of the program are understood and agreed and appropriate referrals take place to and
  • from the community to OTP and SC sites.
  • Work closely with other partners implementing OTP for proper referral and monitoring of beneficiaries at OTP level
  • Ensure the multi-chart/inpatient card has properly filled and monitored and corrective action has taken on daily basis.
  • Makes sure that health professionals from the health facilities to participate on the daily routine work for sustainability and smooth phase out strategy,
  • Work closely with the teams to ensure all children are screened correctly.
  • Ensure all criteria are respected and understood by the teams, including admission, discharge and transfer to and from the OTP/SC.
  • Ensure comprehensive health checks and correct clinical diagnosis at the time of assessment according to the CMAM protocols so that the patient receives appropriate treatment in the
  • relevant program.
  • Ensure all children in SC are immunized according to the national protocols.
  • Ensure timely identification of complications, non-responders, and referrals to further investigation and management.
  • Ensure correctness, consistence and completeness of the information in the nutrition registers.
  • Ensure adequate availability of all medical and food supplies and ensure stock is pre- positioned as planned by discussing with logistics
  • Provide key Nutrition and Health education messages to beneficiaries based the protocol and guidelines.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding the technical aspects of the program admission and discharge whenever necessary at the SC sites.
  • Follow-up and ensure the field team interacts with the beneficiaries properly
  • Provide a daily/weekly and Monthly CMAM report to the SC doctors/H&N Manager.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine (MB.BS/MBChB) with experience in emergency nutrition response especially in complicated SAM management at Stabilization centre level and clinical experience in management of children under five at the in-patient level.
  • Over (3) years’ experience in complicated SAM case management in SC and CMAM programmes.
  • Valid and current practicing license.
  • Excellent report-writing skills
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Hausa, Kanuri is a plus.

Stabilization Center Nurse - 4 positions



Scope of Work
  • The SC nurse is the focal point for nutrition care at the INTERSOS's stabilization center and
  • will ensure 24-hour coverage. S/he will report to the SC medical Doctor and work closely with
  • the MOH staff for day to day administrative issues.
  • The SC nurse will ensure the implementation of quality nursing care at the stabilization Centre and ensure that all nutrition roles and responsibilities are done as per Nigeria national CMAM
  • inpatient guidelines.
  • The SC nurse will identify gaps in stabilization Centre care and take the necessary steps to address those gaps. S/he will aid in planning, implementing and monitoring of high impact
  • interventions and will provide support to system strengthening and promotion of childhood nutrition, with special focus to the most vulnerable and unreached population groups. In
  • addition, s/he will provide support and technical assistance to the Health Department and management of on-going programs statewide and establishing nutrition surveillance systems.
  • S/he will directly supervise the SC, will help mothers and cleaners and work hand in hand with stabilization Centre Doctor to ensure quality of care.
Key Responsibilities
Programming:
  • Ensure quality and timely identification and treatment of medical complications associated with malnutrition in SC in liaison with the clinical services. Give and advice on the drug regimen for

  • Participate in daily ward rounds in the SC ward with the medical team.
  • Strictly monitor and record the vital signs as required and report any deviation from the normal.
  • Prepare for and assist the doctors during the rounds and whenever required.
  • Ensure that all required observations, prescribed treatment and procedures are properly carried out and documented on patient’s charts.
  • Refer to the doctor in charge or to the doctor on call relevant information such as patient’s status and laboratory results, which would assist in proper clinical management.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living while in the ward.
  • Arrange and submit weekly ward work schedule and plan daily duties and responsibilities for reporting staff.
  • Accompany patient to referral hospital when necessary.
  • Maintain equipment in good condition and submit regular inventory report of the same.
  • Maintain drug registers and drug consumption within the ward level in collaboration with the pharmacy department.
  • Ensure that all admissions, discharges, transfers and deaths are properly recorded as they occur.
  • Ensure the establishment of nutrition monitoring activities and train health staff in case detection and referral system.
  • Improvement of the MIYCN program in the ward and ensure mother establish breastfeeding while in the ward
  • Monitor therapeutic Feeds and ensure that children get 3 hourly therapeutic feeds as required.
  • Ensure timely reporting in accordance with set deadlines.
  • Improve the provision of quality nutrition counseling in the hospital
  • Plan and Conduct continuous monitoring of the OTP and SC patient management through
  • quality of care (QoC) assessments.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree/Diploma/OND/NCE in nursing.
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of Nigeria
  • Must possess at least three (3) years’ experience in implementing nutrition related activities in a busy community set up.
  • Stabilization center experience will be a huge advantage.
  • S/He must possess ability to analyze and interpret both quantitative and qualitative programmed data
  • Must possess good computer skill (in Microsoft Office)
  • Must possess excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must have cognate skills in computer appreciation.
  • MUST possess a high level of integrity and with good interpersonal skills
  • Ready to work in difficult environmental conditions.
Specific Security Situation/Housing:
  • The security situation in the NE continues to be volatile at level 3 (orange). Security level as it’s one of the three states of emergency (SoE) in the NE of the country.
  • The candidate should be prepared to implement programming in insecure environments
