Livelihoods Officer

Job Role
  • To support the implementation of FSL component of the project.
  • More specifically, assist in the improvement of livelihood programs. S/he is principally responsible for the implementation of the Micro gardening project.
Main Responsibilities
  • Work with the livelihood coordinator to support field level technical assessments on livelihoods. This will be done in coordination with the FSL Manager and other SC thematic areas and/or other external sector agencies, ensuring assessment findings are documented and that all assessments include a specific analysis of children’s needs.
  • Work with the livelihood coordinator to develop livelihood project plans and budgets, contributing towards an overall project implementation.
  • Work with the livelihood coordinator, FSL Manager, and other senior programme staff in developing high-quality concept notes and proposals.
  • With the support of Livelihood Coordinator, support livelihood project implementation to ensure timely delivery of project activities (for example, monitoring against log frames, individual performance management work plans).
  • Identify emerging issues related to the livelihood programme and make recommendations for further solution.
  • In collaboration with project and partner staff, train enumerators on program component, its implementation and prepare narrative report of activities carried out.
  • Working closely with the FSL Manager, livelihood coordinator and/or other senior programme staff, support timely programme and donor reports on project activities in compliance with internal SC requirements and any relevant external donor requirements.
  • With support from the livelihood coordinator identify programme supplies needs and coordinate with the logistics team to put in place a sensible phased procurement plan.
  • With support from the Monitoring & Evaluation team support the M & E plan implementation within the FSL projects, ensuring this links to reporting requirements, and capacity build technical field staff in carrying out the work.
  • With support from the Accountability Lead ensure accountability is enforced in all project activities as well as ensuring that feedback from children and their families is considered in project design/implementation
  • With support from the community mobilization lead ensure effective and efficient information sharing to relevant stakeholders and continuous programme sensitization.
  • Work closely with partners and their staff to ensure project activities are implemented on time and within the stipulated quality.
  • To ensure that the minimum standards of humanitarian relief are maintained in accordance with the Sphere Charter and Red Cross Code of Conduct.
Capacity Building:
  • Identify learning and training opportunities for partner staff and communicate this to the programme manager or FSL Manager. 
Representation & Advocacy & Organisational Learning:
  • Ensure that Save the Children's work is coordinated with the efforts of other agencies and Government, and support Interagency Coordination forums, advocating for the specific needs of children. This may involve supporting coordination working groups within the IDP camps and host communities or target project sites.

Child-Friendly Space Facilitator (Volunteer)

Role
Child-Friendly Space Facilitator (Volunteer)
  • The Child-Friendly Space Facilitator has the responsibility to initiate, oversee and support the implementation of child protection strategies and CFS activities at the camp/community centre level. The CFS Facilitator will be responsible for coordinating children’s participation, activities the work of and providing guidance to the Community Structures and Children on Child protection, child rights and children’s forums.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide training and orientation for Child-Friendly Space animators on setting up and managing a Child-Friendly Space/centres, child rights, child participation, child protection (including the Child Safeguarding Policy), and provide ongoing support and mentoring to practice these concepts to volunteers and animators
  • Compile timely quantitative and qualitative updated data and reports using designated monitoring tools and forward to child protection in emergencies officers
  • In coordination with the Child Protection team members, support regular participatory activities with different groups of children to identify issues affecting children in their communities, and assist the teams to develop appropriate responses
  • Report general protection issues present in the operational areas to the field based Child protection team
  • Screen for and monitor protection needs and gaps in and around the Child-Friendly Spaces/centres
  • Supervise the animators working in the Child-Friendly Spaces/centre on a regular basis, ensuring that activities are implemented in an appropriate manner
  • Ensure a safe and child-friendly atmosphere in the Child-Friendly Space/centre
  • Ensure that equipment inventories are up to date and that replacement needs are highlighted.
  • Ensure internal referral systems are followed when Child protection cases are identified within the CFS/centre.
  • With the assistance of the animators conduct a daily visual assessment of the children and ensure a variety of structured games and activities within the Child-Friendly Space/centre, catering to the needs of children of different ages, genders, and abilities
  • Ensure that health and safety regulations are understood and followed and that health and safety incidents are logged
  • Contribute to the design of an overall programme contingency plan
  • In the event of a sudden influx facilitate the contingency plan process

Working Conditions

In no case shall the enumerator be reimbursed for more than eight (8) hours during an approved work day and may not be paid for work on Saturdays and Sundays unless agreed in advance.

Child Protection Case Worker (Volunteer)

 
Locations (community): Chabbal, Gongolon, Dusman and Dallori communities - Borno

Job Decription
  • The Child Protection Case Worker has the responsibility to initiate, oversee and support the implementation of child protection strategies and activities at the camp/community level.
  • The CP Case Worker will be responsible for implementing the work of and providing guidance to the Community on Child Protection activities.
RKey Responsibilities
  • Represent  SCI in the field, with professionalism, honesty and commitment
  • Interview potential CP cases documenting interview prior to referral to relevant service providers.
  • Implement program objectives, strategies and activities in agreement with local customs
  • Identify child protection cases for assessments, home visits and follow-ups
  • Assist the Child Protection officer in carrying out interviews with children.
  • Filling in the relevant monitoring tools for the individual cases management of the of UASC  and other vulnerable children accordingly
  • Identify  high priority cases requiring referrals and report to CP officer as they arise for necessary referral
  • Facilitate the implementation of a mobilization strategy for community structures and target beneficiaries
  • Mobilize community structures as required
  • Participate in training courses and meetings for the community structures and fill the relevant monitoring tools

Nutrition Coordinator

Scope of Role
  • The Nutrition Coordinator will be responsible for overall implementation and oversight of nutrition activities (CMAM & IYCF).
  • He/she will also oversee Nutrition Officer implementing nutrition activities in the areas of jurisdiction.
  • He/She will who support the day-to-day running of project activities along with SCI partners.
  • The Nutrition Coordinator will also ensure that nutrition activities are fully integrated into other sectoral interventions and also enhance coordination between sectors.
  • The Nutrition Coordinator will Engage in capacity building activities including training and on the job mentorship to team members, provide training to the nutrition team in IYCF-E, CMAM, and other related nutrition-focused activities;
  • This position will be based at Maiduguri with travel to field sites; and reports to Nutrition Manager.
Key Areas of Accountability
  • This post focuses on emergency/humanitarian programming and not limited to any project. The position holder will be expected to contribute to SCI’s dual mandate and support as needed.
Program Management:
  • Oversees the implementation of nutrition activities and ensuring that the quality standards and state of the art are met;
  • Ensures effective start-up, management, implementation, monitoring, reporting and evaluation of integrated Nutrition projects;
  • Provide support to the project team and implementing partners; assess training needs, plan & provides training/guidance for staff in setting up new nutrition services;
  • Facilitate training for nutrition professionals;
  • Participating in and/or leading health, nutrition, and/or multi-sectoral assessments as required;
  • Manages all Save the Children resources (equipment, supplies, HR) committed to nutrition program activities;
  • Conducts regular field visits to provide supportive supervision to the projects;
  • In liaison with the Nutrition Specialist, develop work plans, SOPs, budgets, and other required program documents for nutrition section;
  • Conducts regular field visits and review meetings with government officials to monitor the implementation of nutrition programs;
  • In collaboration with Nutrition Specialist, ensure timely preparation and implementation of activities while focusing on the targets/ deliverables.
Representation and communication:
  • Represent SCI nutrition and participate in internal coordination and share up-to-date within the sector
  • Documents findings and recommendations of field visits for follow-up actions; shares as appropriate.
  • Actively participates in the development and submission of program reports, ensuring completeness, accuracy and timeliness.
  • Documents lessons learned in specific technical areas.
Policy Analysis, Policy Engagement and Advocacy for Policy Change:
  • Contribute to nutrition learning and research that supports the sector advocacy objectives and lead the implementation research necessary for evidence-based advocacy.
  • Represent the organization at all relevant technical external task forces, working groups, seminars or other meetings as approved by the sector head and use these meetings to negotiate strategic, project and advocacy positions.
  • Develop good relations with other NGOs, development and UN agencies working in the sector and where possible forge alliances to influence key actors around advocacy objectives.
  • Be fully aware of national policies, strategies and other initiatives and developments by the government and other stakeholders in the sector of the thematic area covered.
  • Ensure that the voices of children guide advocacy and policy change objectives and related activities.
  • Compile, Analyze and interpret nutrition response data and provide regular updates to government and NGO coordination bodies as requested, and use the information to justify decisions on further resource allocation.
  • Participates in identifying, coordinating, and implementing operational research studies to pilot and scale-up effective direct interventions in coordination.
Programme Quality and Effectiveness:
  • Ensure that project officers are meeting both internal and donor technical standards and requirements. This includes oversight of implementation quality, reviewing, editing and signing-off donor reports to ensure they are of an acceptable technical and presentational quality.
  • Participate in field-based project monitoring and review meetings.
  • Liaise with Programme Operations staff to identify technical support needs of projects and staff, and jointly agree on specific and time-bound support needs of projects and staff in relevant technical areas.
  • Provide technical training to ensure that the project staff have the necessary skills to technically implement the project.
  • Assist project staff in the use of nutrition and cross-cutting tools and guidelines to ensure the quality of work. These include, among others, child participation, child right programming and mainstreaming of gender, diversity and HIV/AIDS.
  • Prepare work plans, in consultation with Nutrition Specialist.
  • Undertake regular field visits to project sites to ensure technical quality and timeliness of ongoing work.
Other:
  • The post holder may be responsible for additional tasks and duties as and when required to support the overall Country Programme, regional and head office priorities.
Qualification and Experience
  • M.Sc Degree or First Degree in Public Health, Nursing, Nutrition or related health fields with a minimum of 5 years work experience in the nutrition the area of emergency nutrition in NGO environment.
  • Strong analysis and writing skills
  • Certificate in monitoring and evaluation, nutrition in the humanitarian context, CMAM, IYCF, or any other related topics.
  • Experience in working with government counterparts and other partners at various levels -
  • Excellent understanding of the relevant thematic sector in Nigeria at both field and policy levels; including the national nutrition program and well as CMAM programming
  • Proven experience in emergency nutrition projects
  • Familiarity with nutrition donors, partners, and NGO groups
  • Practical understanding of the challenges and opportunities in realising children’s rights in Nigeria, in relation to the thematic area

Role Purpose
  • Save The Children is looking to add a skilled Proposal Budget/Costing Specialist who is passionate about being a part of a global team of individuals committed to improving the lives of children in Nigeria.
  • The post holder is responsible for analyzing and determining the essential cost elements needed for each proposal submission, in relation to the donor’s requirements, and provides timely and effective leadership, guidance and support throughout the proposal development process.
  • The Proposal Budget/Costing Specialist works as part of the Program Development and Quality team to assist in development of proposal budgets.
Key Areas of Accountability
  • Thoroughly review solicitations/calls for funding and become an expert on funder instructions and requirements
  • Develop proposal budget templates and guidance
  • During proposals, work closely with technical advisors to identify and cost for project activities
  • During proposals, work closely across all units such as Operations, Human Resource, Security, Logistics and Finance to identify and budget for operational costs
  • Improve budgeting tools and processes within the Save the Children Nigeria CO, in line with Save the Children International and donor guidance
  • Ensure that realistic, comprehensive and accurate budgets accompany all proposals
  • Build staff capacity in budget development and budget-related areas of donor compliance; preferably including commercial contracts
Qualifications, Experience and Attributes
Essential:
  • Experience leading in the development of budgets for proposals for donors such as USAID, DFID, other bilaterals, foundations and/or corporations
  • Experience with non-profit accounting, budget analysis and development
  • Knowledge of donor rules and regulations
  • Ability to work with technical experts to cost out proposed project activities
  • Experience working with field office staff and/or headquarters staff to jointly develop proposal budgets
  • Preference for candidates with contract/commercial budgeting experience
  • Experience building the capacity of appropriate staff on the business/cost proposal process in accordance with Save the Children policies.
Education:
  • Master's degree or equivalent experience in a related field required.
Work Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years overall experience, with 2-3 years developing project budgets
Skills:
  • Exceptional analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team to meet deliverables
  • Ability to cost for complex programs
  • Ability to communicate guidance clearly to non-Finance staff
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent Excel skills.
